Washington, DC, Aug 26, 2016 — The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is welcoming a federal court ruling this evening that stops the University of North Carolina from implementing aspects of HB2, the state law that legalizes far-reaching discrimination against transgender people. The ruling states that aspects of HB2 are unlawful under Title IX.

“This significant ruling, while only effecting UNC, hopefully signals the first death knell for the truly despicable HB2. This now means that UNC trans students and employees can use the restroom that matches their gender identity. This is a victory about respect for human dignity that we hope leads to the total rejection of HB2,” said Rev. Rodney McKenzie, Director of the Academy for Leadership and Action.
