WASHINGTON, DC, February 18 2015 — The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is describing Federal Judge Andrew Hanen’s recent immigration ruling—designed to stop the implementation of key components of the president’s executive action on immigration reform—as “politically motivated, undemocratic and mean spirited.”

“Clearly this ruling is about stopping any type of humanitarian relief for undocumented immigrants and their families. It seems politically motivated, undemocratic and mean-spirited for one person to stand in the way of progress for millions of people who simply want to access the promise of America — progress that commands the support of the vast majority of Americans. Every president since after World War II has had to deal with Congresses who were not prepared to act on fixing our outdated and broken immigration system. It’s time for this Congress and judges to cease and desist in their anti-immigrant actions and to support fair and comprehensive immigration reform,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.

The ruling stops the implementation of the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) programs. The decision could be overturned by a higher federal court.
