Washington, DC, January 6, 2015 ― The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is urging the incoming Congressional leadership to work with the White House to pass legislation that addresses immigration reform, LGBTQ employment protections and civil rights.

“Two of the most popular issues that were unnecessarily stalled in the last Congress were comprehensive reform of our broken immigration system and the passage of strong employment protections for LGBTQ employees. We urge the incoming Speaker and Majority Leader to really work with the White House to pass legislation that addresses these issues in a meaningful way. And as we begin the new year, the 114th Congress must not sweep the tragedies of Ferguson and Staten Island under the carpet:

Members must address racial injustice by ending profiling by law enforcement and restoring voter protections that were gutted by Shelby.

Through its leadership, Congress can demonstrate our country’s commitment to the core values on which this nation was built, including that everyone, all of us, ought to be able to live out the promise of America.

To do so, Congress must act by passing critical pieces of legislation to fix the ongoing systemic issues that are holding back any real progress we might make as a nation,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.
