NEW YORK, NY October 30, 2015 –The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is rejecting New York State Senator John J Flanagan’s criticism of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Executive Order to extend anti-discrimimation protections to transgender and gender nonconforming people.

“I was alarmed to hear Senator Flanagan suggesting that New York’s recent move to ban discrimination and harassment against transgender people had ‘gone too far’. He is wrong. The truth is that transgender men and women deserve the same protections under the law as everyone else, and to suggest otherwise reveals a flagrant bias against the LGBTQ community. Governor Cuomo was right to take the action that he did, and we stand with him in support of New York’s transgender community,” said Stacey Long Simmons, Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.
