Washington DC, May 27, 2016 — The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is welcoming the introduction of the LGBT Data Inclusion Act in the United States Congress.

“Collecting sexual orientation and gender identity data in all federal population-based surveys means that LGBTQ people count when it comes to the provision of vital services. It also means that we can more effectively advocate for more specialized services for people who need them most. If made law, the LGBTQ community would be treated the same as other minority communities with regard to data collection; so you would see sexual orientation and gender identity appear on forms next to race, ethnicity, age, or gender,” said Meghan Maury, Senior Policy Counsel, Criminal and Economic Justice Project Director.
