We are the last line of defense before the Big Beautiful Bill is voted on by the House of Representatives. This bill will harm many of our poor and working families, cutting programs that we rely on to survive like Medicaid and SNAP. All while adding more than $3 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. That is why we’re counting on you to help push back and tell your Representative to vote NO on H.R. 1.
If you have a few minutes to spare, you can easily Find Your Representative and call them to leave a message using the script below:
“Hello, my name is ______, and I’m calling on behalf of the National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund to urge the Representative to oppose H.R. 1.
This bill threatens healthcare access, targets trans and intersex communities, slashes essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP, and imposes cruel policies on immigrant families—this bill is not about fairness, it’s about real harm. There is nothing beautiful about the bill – the Representative must vote NO.”
If a staff member picks up, you can read this extended version about the bill:
“Hello, my name is ______, I am calling as your constituent from __(city / zip code)__. In partnership with the National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund, I am calling to urge the Representative to firmly oppose H.R. 1. [pause for response]
This bill is a dangerous rollback of essential protections for historically underserved communities. It bans Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care and aims to redefine sex in healthcare, which puts the safety and livelihood of trans and intersex people at risk.
H.R. 1 guts Medicaid access for low-income people and imposes punitive work requirements while slashing SNAP and access to food.
For immigrant families, the bill funnels billions into harsh enforcement and detention efforts, restricts healthcare access, and turns the constitutional right of seeking asylum into a game of pay-to-play.
Nothing in this bill is about fairness or fiscal responsibility. It’s cruel and intentionally creates structural challenges for everyday people like me. I hope that my Representative can stand up for dignity, equity, and the human rights of all people. H.R. 1 does not serve the people of our state, and they must vote NO.”
It is up to us to fight against lawmakers who try to take your hard-earned money to benefit the rich. By taking action today, you will help do the work it takes to ensure everyone has life-sustaining access to health care through essential programs.
