Washington, DC, November 12, 2015–The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is condemning the controversial decision by Utah District Court Juvenile Judge Scott Johansen to take a foster daughter from her parents, married couple Beckie Pierce and April Hoagland.

“This ruling is heartbreaking for this family—and illustrates even with marriage equality that we are a long away from lived freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ families across our nation. We hope that the wheels of justice move quickly and fairly in this family’s favor. This outrageous judgement also shows just how badly we need the passage of the Equality Act by Congress to provide comprehensive non-discrimination protections. Rights delayed are rights denied — and this denial of rights can have devastating consequences for all LGBTQ people and all LGBTQ families such as this one in Utah,” said Rea Carey, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.
