Washington DC, May 26, 2016 —The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is celebrating the passage of an amendment to a spending bill that will continue to make discrimination against LGBTQ employees by federal contractors illegal. The amendment restores the protections that were established by President Obama in his historic executive order in 2014; protections that were removed by the House Majority in another vote last week.
“These protections impact millions of employees of federal contractors. Now these hard-working people and their families will be able to sleep a little easier knowing that they can’t be fired because of who they are or love. We would like to thank U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney for his leadership on this issue. We’d also like to express our thanks to all House members who voted for this amendment,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Action Fund.
