Statement on Final House Vote for “Respect for Marriage Act” to Protect Same-Sex and Interracial Marriage

(Washington, D.C. — December 8, 2022) The Statement Below Can Be Attributed to Kierra Johnson, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund:

This morning, the U.S. House took the final legislative step in Congress by passing the Respect for Marriage Act, a bipartisan bill to protect same-sex and interracial marriages. While marriage equality remains the law of the land, Congress will now send this bill to the President’s desk for signing, insuring and validating existing protections that may be under threat. President Biden has promised to sign the RMA into law. We thank Congress for working so hard to enshrine in federal law respect for our marriages and families.
