Washington, DC, April 22, 2015 — Last night, a Congressional panel approved a bill that would block a Washington, DC nondiscrimination law—the Reproductive Health Nondiscrimination Act—from taking effect. The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is joining lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) advocacy and reproductive rights organizations across the country in calling on Congress to nix the discriminatory measure.

“We urge members of Congress to nix the proposed bill that would repeal a Washington, DC law that extends basic reproductive healthcare protections for all women and their families,” said Stacey Long Simmons, Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs at the National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund. “Since the Hobby Lobby decision, numerous Indiana-style laws have been proposed by self-interested politicians seeking to roll back critical advances to basic rights—using religious liberty as a guise for blanket discrimination. Congress should stand up for what is right and nix this discriminatory bill now.”

The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund’s recently launched the “Nix It Now (#NixItNow) campaign calling on state and federal lawmakers to reject Indiana-style blanket discrimination laws. The organization is encouraging all to visit their facebook page  to share the “Nix it Now” graphic.
