Washington, DC, April 1, 2015 — The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is urging Governor Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) to veto an Indiana-style discrimination law, HB1228, that was passed by the Arkansas legislature yesterday.

“Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas has a critical choice to make about the future of his state: do the right thing by vetoing HB1228 or transform his state into no-go area for LGBTQ people and our allies. Let’s be crystal clear about this: the opponents of freedom, justice and equality—those who are pushing ‘religious exemptions’ and ‘religious refusals’ legislation right now—want to weaken true religious liberty. They are on the verge of making a mockery of our deeply held American values of freedom of religion and freedom from religion. Today their targets are LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, and people of color; tomorrow it could be you,” said Russell Roybal, Deputy Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.

The extremely controversial Indiana law recently signed by Governor Mike Pence has been widely condemned across the world as a thinly-veiled license to discriminate and an attack on true religious liberty.
