WASHINGTON, DC, August 7, 2015– The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund is making the following statement regarding last night’s GOP presidential debate.

“Last night’s GOP debate revealed how the opponents of equality view the LGBTQ community, people who support access to reproductive health services, people who demand an end to racism and our millions of allies who represent all political persuasions. By what most of the candidates said and by what they didn’t say, it seems that we, together, are viewed with an equal amount of negativity and contempt. On this point — that we should be viewed as one movement — the candidates are correct. We stand together, in unity, for freedom, justice and equality for all,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.

“In fact during the debate candidates seemed to pivot back and forth from their detestation of marriage equality to their hatred of Planned Parenthood. And throughout the whole debate, on the actual anniversary of the Voting Rights Act — at a time that the nation is dealing with so many issues related to racism and racial injustice — there was not a single word from any of the candidates about restoring this vital piece of civil rights legislation. Yes, this debate was quite revealing.”
