WASHINGTON, DC, March 3, 2015 — Today, Congress passed the Homeland Security bill without overturning President Obama’s historic immigration executive action which provides some relief for millions of undocumented immigrants. The National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund issued the following statement:

“We are delighted that Congress has passed this bill without removing vital immigration relief provided by President Obama’s historic immigration executive action. Every president since since World War II, Democrats and Republicans alike, have had to deal with Congresses who were not prepared to act on fixing our outdated and broken immigration system. It’s time Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader McConnell listened to the public and urgently pass fair, commonsense and humane immigration reform,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.

According to a recent study by the Williams Institute, more than a quarter of a million undocumented immigrants are LGBTQ people.
